Hytale Update 4 Patch Notes: 500 Blocks, Voice Chat & More - Hytale guide

Hytale Update 4 launched on March 26, 2026, and it’s the biggest patch since Early Access dropped in January. Over 500 new blocks, built-in proximity voice chat, a completely reworked potion system, and a new creative tool called Revolve. Ten weeks into Early Access and the game already looks wildly different from day one.

The update rolled out across five pre-release builds during February and March before hitting the stable branch. If you played through any of the pre-release patches, you’ve seen pieces of this. But the stable release bundles everything together with additional fixes on top.

Proximity Voice Chat

The headliner. Hytale now has spatial voice chat baked right into the game. No more alt-tabbing to Discord to talk to friends while exploring.

The system uses distance-based audio, so voices get quieter as players move away. Go underwater and everything sounds muffled. Stand in a cave and you’ll hear reverb bouncing off the walls. Your character’s mouth even animates when you’re talking, and the HUD shows speaker portraits so you can see who’s active.

It ships disabled by default for safety reasons. Players opt in through Audio Settings, where you can pick between voice activation and push-to-talk, choose your input device, adjust levels, and toggle noise suppression. Child accounts are locked out through parental controls.

Server owners get a set of voice commands to manage things:

  • /voice enabled toggles voice chat on or off
  • /voice maxdistance sets how far voices carry
  • /voice fullvolumedistance controls the full-volume range before falloff kicks in
  • /voice mute/unmute targets specific players
  • /voice status checks current settings

Players use .voice (dot prefix, not slash) for client-side controls. You can also mute anyone directly from the map screen.

500+ New Blocks

This is where the sheer scale of Update 4 hits. More than 500 blocks were added, roughly half available in Exploration mode through crafting and the other half exclusive to Creative mode for now.

A big chunk of the work expanded existing structural sets that were previously incomplete. Sets like Slate, Limestone, Chalk, and Cooled Magma now have full ranges including stairs, slabs, bricks, and beams.

Other building additions:

  • Connectable fences and walls now support T-junctions and four-way cross connections
  • Apple trees with stage-based sapling growth and unique textures per stage
  • Cybercity block set in Creative mode, including neons, arcade machines, and modern metals
  • New furniture pieces, decorative blocks, and expanded texture variants across the board

For builders, this is a massive expansion. The Cybercity stuff especially opens up a whole sci-fi aesthetic that wasn’t possible before.

Revolve Tool

A new Creative tool that lets you copy a selection and paste it in multiple rotations around a center point. Think of it like a kaleidoscope for building. You pick a selection, set the number of rotations, and it pastes copies arranged in a circle.

It’s particularly useful for towers, pillars, circular structures, and any kind of radially symmetric architecture. Before this, you’d have to manually rotate and place each copy.

Emote Wheel and Customization

Hold ‘X’ to open the new Emote Wheel. Five new emotes join the lineup: Chicken, Kill, Laugh, Punch, and Tongue. Some emotes now loop continuously, and the wheel shows an icon indicating which ones do.

Character customization also got attention. Seven new hairstyles were added: Afro, Big Afro, Frizzy Buns, Long Dreadlocks, Puffy Twin Dreads, Dreads Fade, and Star Puffs. Three existing styles (Puffy Bubble Braids, Afro Puffs, Puffy Bun) were updated. A few cosmetics got renamed too, like Basic Sandals becoming Leather Sandals and Long Sleeved Tunic becoming Cotton Tunic.

Players also animate differently when falling from heights now, which is a small touch that adds a lot.

Potion System Rework

The old potion system rewarded chugging instant heals mid-combat. That’s gone. Potions now use a Heal over Time mechanic that forces you to actually think about when to drink.

Large Health Potions, for example, restore 35% of your health immediately, then another 55% kicks in after a 5-second delay. That’s 90% total healing, but you can’t just face-tank damage while it ticks. You need to disengage or play defensively.

Other potion changes:

  • Smaller potions stack up to 10
  • Large Potions take a full inventory slot (stack size of 1)
  • Empty Small and Large Potion Bottles are craftable at the Alchemy Bench
  • Blue, Green, Iridescent, Pink, Purple, and Orange potions are now decorative only
  • All consumable potions use a new template system with Quality levels
  • Health, stamina, and energy potions rebalanced across Lesser through Large variants

This is one of those changes that sounds small on paper but completely reshapes how combat plays out. PvP servers will feel this the most.

Farming and Alchemy Changes

The farming progression got restructured. Tiers 9-10 were removed from the Farming Bench, and Tiers 3-5 moved to the Alchemy Bench. Blood Leaf, Storm Sapling, and Azure Kelp seeds are now crafted at the Alchemy Bench and require the new Crystal Fertilizer to grow. These rare crops have unique growth conditions and can be salvaged for petals.

Pink Crystal Shards are a new resource that drops from Pink Crystals, feeding into this system.

New tools: Copper and Iron Sickles were added for harvesting. Hold the input to swing continuously instead of clicking each time.

Watering Cans got a big overhaul. Capacity jumped from 20 to 50 charges, and they now water a 3x3 area. You can also place them on the ground while crouching. Width and depth are configurable.

Combat and AI

  • Wolves now use pack tactics with flanking behavior and retreat when injured
  • Bows can no longer be drawn without ammunition
  • Tool durability extended: Hatchets, pickaxes, and shovels now lose durability when used on wood
  • Builder’s Workbench and campfires craft instantly
  • Burnt Praetorian Skeleton gravity fixed
  • Projectile spinning issues resolved

Temple Golem Loot

Temple Golems now drop specific gemstones based on their element:

Golem TypeDrop
Earth Crystal GolemEmerald
Flame Crystal GolemRuby
Frost Crystal GolemSapphire
Sand Crystal GolemZephyr
Thunder Crystal GolemTopaz

World and Environment

  • Fireflies spawn more frequently in Zone 1 Plains at night
  • River and tile density updated across multiple biomes
  • Redwood biomes now spawn in taiga portal worlds
  • Zone 1 Plains weather patterns modified
  • Zone 4 sewers generate exclusively under cities
  • Block sound clustering added (rain hitting water sounds more natural now)
  • Conditional ambient sounds introduced, like rain on windows
  • World generation Prop system overhauled with modular features
  • RAM reduction for the V2 Worldgen prefab loader
  • Improved dual-source audio blending for headphone users

Quality of Life

  • Interaction hints show when hovering over objects. Plants display “Pick,” doors and fences show “Open”
  • Emote pages scroll with the mouse wheel
  • Configurable world map radius with per-world minimap override
  • Server-wide minimap clamp for server owners who want to limit map exploration
  • Fishing traps have improved placement flexibility in shallow water with better preview
  • Creative Tool items marked as “Technical”
  • New “Tools” category for bug reports
  • Various localization fixes and disconnect message improvements

Modding Improvements

  • Asset Pack Save Browser lets you choose which asset pack to save prefabs to
  • Prefab Editor hotkey (ALT+T) warps between the Prefab Editor and your last visited world
  • Anchor Tool merged into the Prefab Selector Tool (SHIFT+R)
  • Paste Tool preview performance improved
  • Tint blending and opacity support with tint history saving
  • NodeEditor updated to Noesis 3.2.1
  • New /npc descriptors command
  • NPC templates expanded with DeathParticles, DropDeathItemsInstantly, and DeathAnimationTime
  • Enabled flag added for Action elements
  • Beacon action Range now computed from template variables

Bug Fixes

Update 4 squashed over 26 bugs across combat, world gen, and creative tools.

World: Floating torch placement, furnace processing, Salvage Bench functionality, BaseHeight positioning, sunset transparency issues, and removal of an unintended artificial light crop growth bonus.

Creative tools and UI: Timeline Editor and Node Editor crashes, Undo/Redo stability, Asset Previewer textures, 1x1x1 Selection Tool bugs, camera swap crashes, inverted camera behavior, map marker scaling, emote naming, NPC item-following bugs, and localization corrections.

New Worlds Modding Contest

Alongside Update 4, Hypixel Studios announced the New Worlds Modding Contest on CurseForge with a $100,000 USD prize pool. If you’ve been building mods, this is the time to publish them.

How to Update Your Server

If you’re running a Hytale server, Update 4 is on the stable branch now, so no more opting into pre-release builds. Just update through your launcher, CLI downloader, or hosting panel.

For full server update instructions and mod compatibility tips, check the Update 4 Pre-Release 3 guide, which covers the update process in detail.

What This Means for Players

Update 4 sets a pace that’s honestly kind of wild for an Early Access game. Four major updates in ten weeks, with this one alone adding more blocks than some games ship with total. The proximity voice chat makes the social experience way more organic, and the potion rework adds real decision-making to combat instead of just panic-chugging heals.

For server owners, the voice chat commands and minimap controls give you more tools to shape the experience. And the modding contest signals that Hypixel Studios is serious about community content being a core part of the game’s future.
