There are no usable boats in Hytale Exploration Mode. If you’ve been searching crafting menus or hunting for boat recipes, stop. The boats you see in Creative Mode are purely decorative. They sink if you place them in water and can’t be mounted.

Below are the workarounds players are actually using, and the latest on when real boats might show up.

The Sword Dash Technique (Best Method)

This is the fastest way to cross water right now, and it’s not even close.

How it works:

  1. Equip any sword
  2. Hold left-click to charge
  3. Release to dash forward
  4. The dash launches you across the water surface
  5. Ignores water slowdown completely
  6. Chain dashes back-to-back as long as you have stamina

You can cross entire lakes in seconds using this. The charge attack propels you forward regardless of terrain, and water doesn’t slow down the dash momentum.

Tips:

  • Iron sword works fine, you don’t need better gear
  • Watch your stamina bar
  • Practice the timing on land first
  • Works even better with stamina-boosting food (vegetable dishes give Stamina Boost)

Ride Around It

Sometimes the simplest solution works best. If you’re on a horse or ram, riding around a lake is usually faster than dismounting and swimming across. Rams handle rough terrain better, and horses are faster on flat ground.

Check your map. Hytale’s current world generation is mostly land-focused with small to medium bodies of water. There usually isn’t a massive ocean blocking your path. Most lakes have a narrow point you can spot on the map before committing to a route.

Teleporters (Late Game)

Once you’ve unlocked teleporters, water crossings become irrelevant. You can instant-travel between locations you’ve set up. Craft them at the Arcanist’s Workbench after collecting 100 Memories at the Forgotten Temple.

This doesn’t help early game, but if you’re struggling with a specific water crossing on a route you travel often, a teleporter pair solves it permanently.

Why Creative Mode Boats Don’t Work

You might have seen boats in Creative Mode and wondered why they’re not in your Exploration world. Here’s the deal:

Creative Mode boats are decoration blocks, not vehicles. Place one in water and it sinks straight to the bottom. You can’t mount them, steer them, or use them for travel.

They exist for building scenes, not transportation. A lot of players have been confused by this, expecting them to work like Minecraft boats. They don’t.

The Boats Mod (If You Really Want Boats)

  • Shipyards were visible in promotional footage
  • Ocean exploration has been teased multiple times
  • Hot air balloons were also shown (suggesting multiple travel methods coming)

Keep in mind that trailer footage doesn’t always make it to release, and those trailers were built on the old engine. But the decorative boats already in Creative Mode suggest the assets are being worked on.

Community estimate: Mid to late 2026, likely tied to expanded ocean content.

The current world generation is intentionally land-focused. When proper oceans arrive, boats will almost certainly come with them.
